Princeton University (Princeton for short) is a world-renowned private research University located in Princeton, New Jersey, United States. It is one of the 14 founding universities of the Association of American Universities and a member of the prestigious Ivy League.  

It was founded in Elizabethtown, New Jersey, in 1746 by dawn Presbyterian Church. It was the fourth institution of higher learning established in colonial America as the College of New Jersey. It moved to New Jersey in 1747 and to the scenic city of Princeton (located between Philadelphia and New York) in 1756. It was renamed "Princeton University" in 1896.
